May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Aga Khan Health Board is raising awareness of the important role mental health plays in our lives. We encourage members of the Jamat to take action toward protecting their mental health and overall well-being.
This May, we will focus our efforts to:
- Highlight the importance of mental health in Islam
- Provide education about mental health conditions, including substance use and addiction.
- Provide treatment options and resources for individuals seeking help for mental health struggles.
- Challenge stigma by speaking respectfully and inclusively about mental health.
- Create safe and supportive environments for open conversations about mental health.
Stay tuned for national & regional webinars and presentations marking Mental Health Awareness Month. Also, if you are interested in any other mental health and fitness resources or to view past webinars, please visit the Mental Health and Fitness section of this website.
It is important to remember that working on your mental health takes time. Change does not happen overnight. Instead, by focusing on small changes, you can move through the stressors of life and develop long-term strategies to support yourself — and others — on an ongoing basis.
If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition and are unsure of where to start, please consult with your primary care physician or contact the ACCESS helpline.
