CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

Coronary artery disease (CAD) results when cholesterol builds up within the arteries of the heart.  South Asians are at an increased risk of developing CAD due to the type of diet, lack of exercise, co-existing diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as alcohol use and smoking.

COMPLICATIONS

Blocked arteries can weaken the heart muscle and cause heart attacks.  Look out for heart attack warning signs: chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, jaw/neck/arm pain
